|Permian extinction update|
Since I wrote in "Science in the News" (vol. 8 , no. 3) about the Permian extinction, a catastrophe that wiped out some 90 percent of all species approximately 225 million years ago, another possible cause of that extinction has been proposed. University of Chicago astrophysicist David Schramm has demonstrated the likelihood that a supernova caused the devastation.
