Abstract
We have all heard about the story of David and Goliath. As a practical-minded engineer, I once assumed that David started with five smooth stones to have a few more tries in case of a miss. Now I am convinced that I was wrong, that the number five was not arbitrary, but rather was part of a specific plan. In I Samuel 17 we read the following: A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp ... Then the Philistine said, "This day I defy the ranks of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other."
