Abstract
Every student in US public schools will eventually hear the evolutionary story about peppered moths. It is claimed that during the Industrial Revolution, birds started picking off the light-colored moth variants because they stood out so clearly on dark, sooty trees. The darker variants survived and produced more offspring.
