In the Grotte du Renne, a cave in central France, anthropologists found tiny necklace beads along with delicate bone tools amid Neanderthal fossils. Establishing whether the necklaces belonged to Neanderthals or Homo sapiaes like us caused serious debate. Some researchers did not believe Neanderthal people were capable of producing such sophisticated ornaments.
