Hard-bodied robots work well on automated assembly lines, but in the real world, where conditions can change suddenly, soft bodies can be a big advantage. So engineers at Harvard's Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering are imitating the softest of the soft bodies, the octopus.
