Richard Olson stresses the cultural influences occurring during the period 1450-1900, reflecting the author's interest in the interaction of culture with science. Olson is currently a professor of history at Harvey Mudd College and has published Science Deified and Science Defied (1990) and The Emergence of the Social Sciences (1993). His undergraduate degree is in physics and his Ph.D. is in the history of science.
