Impact 385:i-iv. CELD ID 19913 Abstract In 2001 the complete human genome was published with great fanfare and excitement. Many anticipated that the knowledge of the human genetic code (the genome) would provide a complete understanding of what makes a human, well - human. In addition to the human genome, finished and draft genomes for over 25 plants and animals, including the chimpanzee, have now been completed, providing a complete "book of life" for all these organisms. Unfortunately, only a small portion of each of these books is understood by scientists.
