What's new on Mount St. Helens | Dye, B. 1990.
CS Dialogue 17(1):6-7. CELD ID 13532Abstract On May the 18th 1980, probably the most talked about natural catastrophe of the last two decades occurred at 8:32 a.m. Mount St. Helens in northeastern Washington, known by locals to have been dormant for a century, erupted. Subsequent explosions reduced the summit height by over 1000 feet. Rumbles were felt and heard all the way to Vancouver. This 400 megaton explosion produced a column of ash and debris which covered everything in sight for miles and devastated 550 square kilometres of the surrounding area.
