Abstract
On September 28 of this year the planet Mars made its nearest approach to the Earth in 15 years. This, of course has provided observers with small telescopes an opportunity to get a look at Mars which comes only a few times in one lifetime. Unfortunately there is only a limited amount of information which can be gathered in this manner. Thanks to mankind's ongoing interest in Mars much information has been gathered primarily through the use of unmanned space vehicles.
