Abstract
Who was the man Louis Pasteur, the man who has been dubbed the "white knight of science", the man whose discoveries helped to raise medicine from the level of quackery and thus prevented many needless deaths in humans and animals? What were the beliefs and qualities of character which enabled him to stand against the theories of his day and emerge a hero in spite of vicious opposition?
