Abstract
Dr. Dye, an orthopedic surgeon from San Francisco, has examined fossil femora, tibiae and fibulae (the bones of the leg) of representative extinct species, in collaboration with vertebrate palaeontologists in the America Museum of Natural History in New York, the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University and the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.
